Expected Completion Dates

Expected completion and delivery dates will be confirmed via email within a few days of your order.

Please email: support@pursuingthepast.co.uk if you need confirmation of these dates prior to booking. 

Refunds and Cancellations

Orders can be cancelled at any point before delivery by emailing: support@pursuingthepast.co.uk and including your name and the address of the house.

You will then be either charged or refunded according to the work already completed on the project. If you paid in full, this may mean you will be refunded a portion of your original payment. If you chose to pay via payment plan, this may mean you still owe further fees for already completed work. You will be informed of the stage of your project at cancellation and any money owed to you/still owing as a result via email.

Governing Law

The terms and conditions of this website and the contents of this website shall be governed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, and the user and Pursuing the Past agree that the English law courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction to adjudicate any dispute which may arise out of this website.

Data Use and Privacy

I deeply respect your privacy and the data you share with me and below I outline the data I collect for the purposes of running my research agency, and how it is used. This complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and I, Rebecca Merrifield, am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a Data Controller.

House history clients

When I research your house, the service data I collect may include your name, email address, telephone number, property address and further property details including, but not limited to, the design and building history. This data is held within Gmail and my private files in Dropbox.

I need to know this basic personal data in order to complete your house history and contact you regarding your house history. I am required under UK tax law to keep your basic personal data (name, address, contact details) for a minimum of 6 years. You will not be added to any other marketing lists, unless you have opted-in yourself.

Email subscribers

When you subscribe to Pursuing the Past’s emails, I collect your name and email address. This data is held in MailChimp. When you share your data, you can specify whether you would like to receive digital marketing communications. If you want to edit your details at any point, you can access the privacy controls for our digital communications via any emails from ‘Pursuing the Past’, selecting the ‘Update Your Details’ or ‘Unsubscribe’ links at the bottom, or you can email us at: support@pursuingthepast.co.uk to update your preferences.

If you sign up to be kept informed of early bird availability and information regarding my services, I collect your name and email address. This data is held in MailChimp.

I use this information to send email newsletters and ad-hoc communications about new products and services. Your information will be kept until you notify me otherwise; you have the right to be forgotten so contact us: support@pursuingthepast.co.uk if you would like your data to be destroyed.

Website users

I may collect your IP address and information regarding your location and pages accessed. This data is collected and stored in Squarespace and Google Analytics. This provides analysis of general website traffic flows, activity and performance. This meta-data is collected and stored in Sqaurespace and Google Analytics and cannot be used to identify you as an individual.

Your information will be kept until you notify me otherwise; you have the right to be forgotten so contact us: support@pursuingthepast.co.uk if you would like your data to be destroyed.

Third party access

Under no circumstances is your data ever sold or rented to a third party.

I may share your data in the following circumstances:

to service providers and affiliates (e.g. PayPal, postal services) who assist in the delivery of my services

to third parties if I believe that disclosure is advisable or necessary to comply with the law, to enforce or apply my terms and conditions, or to protect the rights, property or safety of myself or others. This may include exchanging information with other companies and organisations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction.

Access to your data

You have the right to request a copy of the information I hold about you. You also have the right to be forgotten, so you can request the data I hold, to be deleted. Responding to your data requests

If at any point you believe the information I process on you is incorrect you request to see this information and even have it corrected or deleted. If you wish to raise a complaint on how I have handled your personal data, you can contact us: support@pursuingthepast.co.u and we will investigate all legitimate requests.

If you are not satisfied with my response or believe I am processing your personal data in any way that contravenes the regulations, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
