House History: The Classic

The Classic House History includes ten hours of professional research in online sources, gathering stories about a house from around 30-40 historical records, to produce a beautifully-designed, A2-size wall print and accompanying printed storybook outlining the research undertaken, plus a digital file of images of archival documents and material uncovered.

    • Ten hours of historical research in online sources, which may include the census, directories, electoral registers and poll books, newspapers, maps, valuation survey records, tithe map and apportionment records, land tax records, parish rate books, records of owners or occupants, wills and probate records, photos of your house and/or its inhabitants, and more.

    • A professionally-written narrative summary of circa 1000 words, revealing the stories of a house from the available sources.

    • A beautifully-designed, A2 giclée print presenting the house stories in our distinctive brand style (with your choice of layout, pattern and colour)

    • An accompanying printed A4 storybook, outlining the stories discovered, research undertaken, findings (including a full source list) and analysis (plus relevant local/national history to put findings in context), images of archival documents or material found and any suggestions for further research.

    • A digital file of images of the original archival documents and material discovered during the research.

Booking closes for Christmas at midnight on Monday 21 October (or when our schedule is full)

What types of houses is it for?

This package works well for any property built before 1920; however, the focus may be more on the period post-1800s (for which, more records are available online). For more in-depth research of an older property, please choose the Comprehensive or Premium House History packages, which include research in local and/or national archives. Or, you could begin your house history journey with The Classic and upgrade to one of the archival research packages at a later date for the cost of the difference in price between the two packages.

Your Classic house history story may include details of:

  • Details of when the house was built or its development.

  • The house’s owners and occupants and stories of their lives in the house.

  • Local history and events which shaped the house and its occupants.
